Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as part of the California Climate Investments Program, through the California Fire Safe Council. 

This grant project aims to assist counties with wildfire mitigation outreach and coordination. This position will sit in the Berkeley Fire Department and serve all of Alameda County. 

In Alameda County the grant funds will be utilized to:

  1. Build a census of all wildfire mitigation groups.

  2. Analyze gaps in county-wide wildfire resiliency and emergency preparedness and develop recommendations to fill those gaps.

  3. Develop mechanisms to improve outreach and coordination efforts.

Program Updates

  • Registration for the ACC Cal Fire Training is now closed, with 40 qualified registrants enrolled.

  • ACC participated in and delivered an introductory presentation to the Alameda County Disaster Council on December 15, 2025.

  • Cal Fire will host a two-day, in-person training on January 15–16, 2026 for verified members of Fire Safe Councils, FireWise Communities, and local Conservation Corps.

  • Chris Pinto was selected as the Alameda County Coordinator in September 2025; his role will be effective for 10 months.

  • Berkeley was selected as the 2025 CAL FIRE County Coordinator Grant subrecipient.

  • XyloPlan Aameda County Analysis added to the website for download in March 2025

  • XyloPlan presentation video and presentation added to the website for download in February 2025

  • Expected grant application for future funding is expected in February 2025

  • Final grant report for year 1 due date is January 31, 2025

  • Meeting Summary and accomplishments was sent to stakeholders on January 10, 2025

  • 2024 California Fire Safe Council grant period of performance concluded on December 31, 2024

  • Meet & Greet with Interim County Coordinator was hosted on December 14, 2024
